Digital Marketing: start with your customer and your goal

I was just thinking about how to frame the challenge of digital marketing when I came upon THIS. The author lists four simple steps to getting on track and being efficient with your time and resources when it comes to a digital marketing strategy. They are exactly in line with what we recommend for our clients, large or small.

Developing a successful digital marketing strategy is as simple as:

  1. Identifying your target audience.
  2. Developing your business goals.
  3. Designing and implementing a strategy for meeting those goals.
  4. Monitoring your chosen strategy.

As Brett suggests in his article, don’t try to do it all! Pick a couple of platforms and do it really well. It also makes a big difference if you are using the right tools to perform those tasks. Just like everything in life, if you don’t identify what your goals are and who you are trying to speak to, you probably won’t achieve the results you wanted.

Your digital marketing strategy can be simple to execute once you have a plan, but without one, you can end up meandering on Twitter reading traffic reports from Toronto and totally forgetting what your point of being there in the first place was.

“…regardless of your business’s industry or size, it is imperative that you learn how to leverage the ability of consumers to interact and engage.” -Brett Relander
